Client Testimonial...

To put a little “proof in the pudding,” so to speak, this page offers you some information concerning our breeding program and other services we offer.  This statement by one of our customers demonstrates what you can expect to find when you visit SRK!  You will discover the depth of the love and caring we have for our animals and also for the people who adopt them, making them members of their family as well as ours!

South River Kennel is a proud member of:

For more information please call us at (515) 371-1916.  The Whelping Box is currently empty, but we’ll have a litter of German Shepherd pups soon!  Our online catalog of pet products, horse tack and other products is available here.  If there’s anything you need, look in our online store!  If you can’t find what you want, call!  We’ll try to get it for you!

There are “dog breeders” and there are “dog trainers.”  And we’ve all cringed at the thought of a “puppy mill!”  Then there’s South River Kennel, where you will find experienced, insured, canine professionals that won’t steer you wrong.  If you have a problem with a dog that seems beyond your ability to handle or cope with, we can help!  Each animal is different and each situation is unique, but we know we can help.  We are responsible breeders, ever mindful of the breed standard and strive to maintain the “old lines,” especially with the Weimaraner breed.  While we do produce and sell many puppies, we also actively adopt rescue dogs and attempt to place animals brought to us with happy homes.  As the testimonial on this page attests, we are not your average kennel!  SRK wishes to thank all of our clients for all of their support!

To interested Pet Owners-                                                                                                         January 28, 2008

I am probably the first person to ever ask someone if I could write a testimonial as to how someone's service or business affected me.  I had to let other people know about how incredible the Dague's are.

The picture below is of my youngest brother Austin, two weeks after his high school graduation in the hospital.  He was critically injured in an auto accident by a drunk driver.  He spent weeks on life support and by the grace of God he pulled through.  Austin had a difficult time understanding his new found obstacles and he was gracious and thankful, but I could tell he was suffering.  By chance I called Patty Dague about their ad for puppies in the paper in 2005.  I talked to her for hours!  I realized that the best medicine for Austin could be something to take care of and to love.  I went to Patty’s home the next day and I brought home “Boulevard,” a blue Weimaraner pup that changed Austin's life.  He recovered overnight and by caring for and loving Boulevard it healed his heart.

My family fell in love with German Weimaraners over 25 years ago.  A Weimaraner has graced our home ever since.  However, we have not been able to find a reputable breeder in Iowa or even the United States in the last 15 years!  My father had given up that search and had even given up hunting after we lost our beloved “Hooch” from old age in 1999.  It devastated my father.  We began looking for a Weimaraner for my dad six years after the loss of our dog.  All we seemed able to find were in-bred Weimaraners with bicycle seat heads, eyes that were too close together and obvious behavioral problems.  It seemed that the breeders were destroying what was once such a noble breed!  Just this past November, 2007, I took my father with me, who also fell in love with Boulevard, to Patty's where he met “Cheerios.” Cheerios is the Dague’s gorgeous, perfect male Weimaraner (almost a replica of our Hooch) and while I was standing speaking with Patty in another room I glanced into her kitchen to see my father petting Cheerios and quietly sobbing.  I knew then that he had finally found a breeder that was to Standard and a dog whose puppies he could let in his heart.  I told Patty while leaving that day that I wanted the biggest male they had for my father and she made sure my wish was granted.  My father loves “Gunther,” and when he first held the new pup he sobbed.  (My dad would kill me if he knew I told people this!).

I will be forever grateful to Patty and Rich and to God for leading me to them and South River Kennel.  I still have a relationship with Patty; in fact my family has now brought home four of their spectacular Weimaraner puppies and two of their little Miniature Pinschers, too!  Not all of these dogs wound up in the same house, though, as we all have our own homes!!!!  Patty and Rich are amazing breeders and my family refers to Patty as the dog whisperer.  I have never seen such well trained Weimaraners in my 25 years of having them in my life.  So thank you Patty for giving Austin hope, for my father's renewed love and healing from the loss of our beloved Hooch with Little Gunther, for Greg and Kelly's new found love for Weimaraners with Lily, my brother Stephen's first Weimaraner, “Kate,” (that I won't take over!), and for Tyler's little Miniature Pinschers.  Finally, thank you for your friendship and true dedication to bringing back the integrity of this breed!
